11th Annual Christie Bike Ride!

We are very excited to announce that registration for the 11th annual Dugald Christie Memorial Community Bike Ride is now open!

We will be hitting the pavement on Sunday September 29th, 2019 in support of the Native Women’s Shelter of Montreal (NWSM). The NWSM is the only women’s shelter in Montreal that provides services exclusively to Aboriginal women and their children. They provide in-house programs, along with an outreach program. For more information, visit the NWSM’S website: https://www.nwsm.info.

We hope that you will join us on our bike ride in support of access to justice! Visit our eventbrite page (linked here) to register. Note that the eventbrite page is for logistics purposes only. In order to cover your registration costs, we require a minimum of 20$ to be fundraised (whether by you personally or through donations on your behalf). To join the fundraising team, please follow this link

Can’t make it to the Ride but would still like to contribute? Donations can be made through the ride’s GoFundMe campaign, linked here (you can donate to the campaign in general, or for a specific rider by selecting the team member you wish to support)

The facebook event can be found here.

The ride will begin at 9:30AM from the Faculty of Law building (we will meet at 9:00AM on the steps outside the library to begin registration). Lunch will be provided mid-way through the day. As in past years, the ride will be approximately 50km.

Looking forward to riding with you and thank you for your support!

For those unfamiliar with the Ride…

The Dugald Christie Memorial Community Bike Ride (Christie Bike Ride, or CBR for short) is an annual event organised by students at the McGill Faculty of Law at the start of every school year. McGill Law students founded the Ride in 2009 to honour McGill Alumnus and Vancouver Lawyer Dugald Christie. Christie was both an advocate for marginalised communities and an avid cycler. In 2006, Christie began a cross-country cycling trip to raise awareness for access to justice issues. He planned to ride to Ottawa to convince decision-makers of the need for justice system reform. He was tragically struck and killed by a vehicle four months after the start of his journey.
