12th Annual Christie Bike Ride!

We are so happy to have partnered with the Black Law Students Association of McGill to organize the ride this year. Click here to see a video message from BLSM for Christie Bike Ride Participants.

This year, all funds raised will go to the West Island Black Community Association, which provides educational, cultural and recreational activities for Black youth and seniors, as well as counselling and a drop-in centre for youth. WIBCA also facilitates discussion groups and anti-racism workshops, and is planning on opening a hotline for free emergency legal services. Please continue to ask your friends and family to support your ride by donating to WIBCA here. To see a video message from WIBCA for the Christie Bike Ride participants, please click here.

Route Options

As the ride will be done individually, you can do any route you want, no matter where you are in the world! That being said, we are offering three suggested routes for our participants in Montreal. While we have listed the starting point as the Faculty of Law for the first two, and the MacDonald Campus for the third, you can start the ride from your home and join the route wherever makes most sense for you!

Option A: The Classic (45 km)
This is the classic Christie Bike Ride route which will take you along the Lachine Canal out to René Lévesque Parc in LaSalle. There is some construction along the canal, so you will have to cross back and forth along the canal a few times, but the signage is clear. From there you will ride east along the Lakeshore through LaSalle and Verdun. Continue on through Nun’s Island to the Estacade and turn left after the bridge. This will take you to Parc Jean Drapeau. From there, take the Jacques Cartier Bridge back to the island of Montreal, and a final climb up to Parc La Fontaine. This route is mostly flat, with three short hills at the end (on Jean-Drapeau up to the Cartier bridge, crossing the Cartier bridge, and from de Maisonneuve up to Sherbrooke).

Please note, all the public washrooms in LaSalle and Verdun are currently closed. There is a port-a-potty in the Arthur Therrien Park (just before the bridge from Verdun to Nun’s Island), but this is 30 km from the starting point, so plan accordingly! There are also open washrooms in Jean Drapeau and La Fontaine.

Option B: Le Classique Lite (35 km)

Option C: The West Island Loop (45 km)
This route gives you the chance to discover McGill’s beautiful MacDonald Campus and the towns in the west of the island. Starting at Mac Campus in Sainte Anne de Bellevue, head West along the Fleuve and follow the bike path as it curves north and back east along the tip of the island. Continue past the Anse à L’Orme Bay towards the Cap St Jacques Nature Park. Turn right on Chateau Pierrefonds Ave and then left on Pierrefonds Blvd to stay on the bike path. Turn right on Jacques Bizard Blvd and left on Salaberry Blvd which will take you to Centennial Park. From there, go a little further east and then turn right on Sources Blvd, which will take you back down to Lakeshore Blvd. Continue west on Lakeshore back to Mac Campus. This route is flat for the most part with 2 small hills (going around the West tip of the island and going south on rue Somerset).

Please note: there are washroom facilities open in Cap St Jacques Nature Park; we are not sure if they are open in Centennial Park, so plan accordingly!
